LEARN TO PAPER PIECE

I was initially a little intimidated by paper piecing. The whole process looked a bit cumbersome. I had been quilting for a couple of years before I suddenly was inspired to dive in and see what this method was all about. I taught myself, from directions very similar to the ones available from this site.

Once I got started, it was hard to stop. My advice is not to get too bogged down in looking at the instructions, but rather pick a simple pattern and tackle the process one step at a time. You'll be glad you did. The detail and accuracy you can achieve with this method is very rewarding. You don't have to give up your traditional quilting methods -- you'll just have more options for expressing your creativity.

I developed the patterns in "Spring Tulips" for teaching paper piecing to beginners. The overall pattern is composed of several fun beginner blocks that I consider "must haves" in my pattern library. To get started, download my "Beginner Piecing Instructions" along with my Free Pineapple Block pattern. The instructions will take you step-by-step through the construction of the Pineapple Block. Once you have that under your belt, download "Spring Tulips" and construct this fun sampler.
